Launched on February 17 2011 in response to the Libyan government’s media and internet crackdown, Libya Al Hurra is the first privately-owned and operated Libyan TV channel.

When Muammar Gaddafi’s government blocked internet access Libya Al Hurra was the only reliable news source.

Tragically, the channel’s founder Mohammed Nabbous was killed on March 19 2011 by pro-Gaddafi troops.
